My Favorite Moisturizing Lipsticks for Dry Lips in 2024

As a self-confessed makeup lover, lipsticks are an essential part of my makeup routine! But, there are rules to the game. Wear the right lipstick and it will elevate your look and tie all your makeup. And unfortunately, the visa-versa is true too, I’m sure I’m not the only one who had to learn that the hard way.

It’s not the shade alone that can make or break your look. Your lipstick needs to be hydrating enough for your lips, to ensure they stay smooth the whole day. This is especially important for dry and aging lips which tend to need that extra nourishment.

Is there anything worse in the lipstick world than cracked and patchy lipstick an hour after applying it? But, the good news is, it doesn’t need to be that way. Using hydrating lipsticks with moisturizing ingredients will keep your lips soft and fabulous throughout the day.

I’ve put together some of my favorite lipsticks that have given me confidence in wearing lipstick, they aren’t only my favorites, they’re recommended by the experts themselves- the makeup artists!

Best Drugstore: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick is a go-to product if you’re after a perfect pout! From red lipsticks to neutral ones and with 3 finishes of cream, matte and pearl, there’s a shade for every need and every taste too!

Not only does it add a pop of color, but it also has hydrating benefits and feels more like a balm than a lipstick. Which is what a comfortable lipstick should feel like!

The hydrating ingredients, like vitamin E and avocado oil, give the added benefit of long-lasting hydration, even after you wash your lipstick off.

To make this lipstick even more perfect than it already is, it’s also affordable! However, it’s not vegan or 100% transfer-proof. That being said, for a drugstore lipstick, it’s pretty darn good! I’m not the only one to think so!

Back to the basics with MAC. Not that MAC is basic, it’s anything but that! However, back in the day when I started out wearing makeup, the best makeup was MAC and that was what the majority of youngsters wore!

Best Hydrating: Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine

I know we’ve already covered a lipstick from Revlon, but, Revlon is the king of affordable lipsticks and the Glass Shine is irresistible! In fact, they practically fly off the shelves and are frequently sold out.

Get a skin-like appearance with the Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick. They melt into the lips giving you not only a stunning appearance but also comfortable lip wear.

Despite the fact that they’re called lipstick and look like lipstick, they are more like nourishing lip balms. Ideal for those who are after comfortable lip wear that doesn’t need to be long-lasting or intensely pigmented. And let me tell you, these lipsticks are the definition of comfort!

The only big disadvantage to these lipsticks is that they’re so often sold out, I’ve never yet come across all 25 shades being in stock at the same time. But don’t be disheartened, read on to the next lipstick for a great dupe!

Best for Dry Lips: NARS Afterglow Sensual Shine Lipstick

Relatively new to the lipstick game is the NARS Afterglow Sensual Shine Hydrating Lipstick. It quickly became a bestseller, and that is no surprise! It’s super hydrating on the lips with ingredients like shea and mango butter that keep the lips moisturized. It feels like a lip balm, yet has the coverage and lasting powers of a lightweight lipstick.

I said that it’s a good dupe for the Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick, but honestly, it’s a lot better! The color payoff is much more pigmented, yet you still get the balm-like benefits. In general, I love Urban Decay makeup, they get it right 95% of the time and these lipsticks are one of their bestsellers. They tick every box that lipsticks should tick, including super hydrating and non-drying on the lips. Infused with hydrating ingredients, these lipsticks have your back.

They have intense pigmentation that’s creamy and smooth to apply, comfortable to wear and provide long-lasting results. Does it get better than that?!

Best Refillable: Dior Addict Shine Refillable Lipstick

The Dior Addict Shine Lipsticks were recently reformulated to be more environmentally conscious. The main changes are that the lipstick comes in a refillable case and that they’re made from more than 90% natural ingredients.

Similar in texture and lip benefits to the NARS Afterglow Sensual Shine Lipstick, the Dior Addict also gives intense hydrating with an impressive color payoff. Like the NARS lipstick, it also doesn’t fit into the traditional definition of lipstick.

The Addict Shine is somewhere in between a balm and lip oil, it glides on the lips smoothly and easily giving your lips a glossy shine. Removing it leaves your lips feeling soft and conditioned for up to 24 hours!

The Dior Addict Shine Refillable Lipstick comes in a whopping 40 shades, ranging from nudes to reds and purples and is suitable for all skin tones, pale to dark. Made from hydrating ingredients like oils, you can be sure your lips will benefit from them. The obvious downside to these lipsticks is the price. Best Matte: bareMinerals Mineralist Hydra-Smoothing Lipstick

The bareMinerals Mineralist Hydra-Smoothing Lipstick is more of a traditional lipstick than some of the balm-like ones mentioned. However, that’s not to say it’s less comfortable or hydrating.

It comes in 25 shades ranging from very nude to deep plums and browns. The shades all have a satin-matte finish. Where a matte finish is often drying on the lips, that is so not the case here!

Creamy to apply, comfortable to wear and packed with oils for lasting hydration these lipsticks deliver beautiful color payoff with a velvety feel to them.

While the bareMinerals Mineralist Hydra-Smoothing Lipstick may not be the most hydrating of the lipsticks in this review, for a matte full-coverage lipstick it scores 10 out of 10!
