The New Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer For Dry Skin
The Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer was a bestseller for many years. It’s all everyone spoke about when it came to concealers! I too was an avid fan, that was until brands started coming out with more hydrating concealers.
My issue with the Shape Tape Original concealer is that it dries out my under eyes, especially during the winter months when my skin is naturally on the drier side.
To combat this, I would always mix the concealer with some moisturiser on my hand before applying it- it’s a great solution and has worked really well.
But, yep there’s always a but. Doing this has made my makeup routine that bit longer, and every spare second in the morning is precious.
Using a concealer that’s made for dry under eyes and that has moisturizing and hydrating ingredients, is a much better solution.
Tarte Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer
The new Shape Tape Concealer comes with a built-in eye cream for 24 hours of hydration! How amazing does that sound? It’s like my concealer dreams have just come true!
No longer do I need to worry about concealer drying out my under eyes, the prickly-pear ingredient ensures the under eyes stay hydrated throughout the day.
But that’s not all of the impressive ingredients. This concealer has plenty more to show off!
The ingredients:
- Hyaluronic acid: helps hydrate & plump
- Ginseng: helps calm the appearance of redness
- Vegan squalane: helps reduce the look of fine lines & wrinkles
- Mango butter: helps moisturize & condition
- Avocado butter: brightens the look of dark circles
- Shea butter: helps retain skin’s elasticity
- Raspberry ketone: helps increase skin’s firmness
- Meadowsweet: acts as an anti-inflammatory
How does it compare?
I think the first question for anyone who has used the Shape Tape Concealer is how does it compare to the new ultra creamy one? And a fair question it is!
Both concealers have the same 35 shades, ranging from very light to very dark with all undertones. They also cost the same amount and have pretty similar packaging.
The main difference between the 2 concealers is the formula. The Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer is made for those with dry and mature skin whereas, the original Shape Tape is made for those with normal to oily skin.
Although, truthfully, most people need concealers that are on the hydrating side. This is for the simple reason that the eyes have the most movement on the face and it is the area most prone to creasing.
The new Shape Tape has loads of skincare ingredients included in the concealer to help your skin stay hydrated and youthful throughout the day. This kind of makes it a hybrid concealer/eye cream.
In contrast, the original concealer does not double up as an eye cream, but, it does have some moisturising ingredients, like shea butter and mango butter.
Both are extremely long-wearing, apply seamlessly and cover even the darkest of bags. Check out these concealer hacks on how you should apply concealer for the best results. Believe it or not, there’s an art in getting it right!
They are also both extremely creamy, they don’t settle in the lines and they are waterproof. The concealers are essentially the same, just one has the extra benefit of it being an eye cream as well as a concealer.
Both concealers are formulated without Parabens, Mineral Oil, Phthalates, Triclosan, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Gluten. It is also vegan.
My Thoughts
This is one of the more exciting releases for me in a while. The reason being is that I loved the Shape Tape Concealer, but my thoughts were that it was time to move on.
I love a good concealer, but when it dries out my under-eyes causing creased makeup, there’s not much point in it.
With the new ultra-creamy concealer you can expect crease-free under eyes, that look hydrated and moisturized throughout the day. For a more affordable concealer, check out these amazing drugstore ones here.
