Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation

Fenty Beauty’s launch was a phenomenon in the makeup industry! The Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation launched with 40 shades. As of today, they have added 10 more shades to their range making it a whopping 50 shades of foundation!

From the beautiful palest shades to the most gorgeous deep tones, you will be able to find a shade that perfectly matches your skin and its undertone. This foundation is said to be medium to full coverage that is lightweight yet long-wearing at the same time.

Fenty Beauty describes and claims this foundation as “giving skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. This oil-free soft matte foundation is made with climate-adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores so that wherever you are, it’s going to work on your skin. Best of all, this light-as-air, longwear Pro Filt’ r foundation is undetectable on skin — so you always look like you.”

The Pro Filt’r Foundation comes in a minimalistic soft-matte glass bottle that really exudes simplicity and elegance. This bottle certainly has that nice luxe weight to it! This packaging comes with a built-in pump for easier application.

The texture of the Pro Filt’r is lightweight as promised although, be aware after applying it, it dries fast. I recommend dotting the product sparingly and then blending it into your skin. After testing out the Pro Filt’r, I immediately noticed the excellent coverage hid all my spots and imperfections extremely well.

The foundation is easy to build up to full coverage without looking heavy and cakey. The finish still looks very natural and feels like you’re not wearing layers of foundation at all. It leaves your skin with a beautiful matte finish which works really well with oily and combination skin

The Pro Filt’ r lasted really nicely the whole day, I barely had to touch it up at all and there was very little fading too. One thing I did notice was that it tends to cling to dry areas of my face and breaks up on lines too.

Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation

Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation

Soon after Rihanna’s revolutionary launch, Huda Beauty then followed suit with their #FauxFilter foundation, also with a super-inclusive shade range of 30! As of today, they too added 10 more shades into the Faux Filter line. The shades range from every undertone from the palest to the deepest skin tones.

What Huda Beauty has to say about the Faux Filter Foundation is that it is “an intelligent liquid foundation blends seamlessly with skin and dries to a radiant matte powder finish that looks luminous, not dry or cakey. Enriched with good-for-your-skin ingredients like Argan Oil and Centella Asiatica, both known for their hydrating properties, this fade-proof formula blends seamlessly into the skin, simultaneously working to improve skin texture. Count on #FauxFilter to give you flawless full-coverage with just one pump, or blend together with the Huda Beauty Complexion Perfection Pre-Makeup Base primer for an even, more natural finish.”

The Faux Filter Foundation is another truly sophisticated packaging. This foundation is in a rectangular-shaped bottle that is super elegant. The packaging is not glass, which is convenient if you travel a lot or if you’re clumsy!

The texture of the Faux Filter is a lot thicker than the Fenty Beauty foundation. I definitely notice that the Faux Filter gives full-on heavy coverage with just one layer and evens out the skin amazingly. When wearing it, it does feel a lot heavier than the Pro Filt’ r.

The Faux Filter foundation dries down to a matte powder finish, and I’ll be honest, you can see you’re wearing foundation. Because it has that thicker texture, it’s a tad more obvious.

However, it doesn’t necessarily make it look bad, in fact, it still has a flawless finish, almost an airbrushed effect on the skin. Although the foundation has a matte finish, it surprisingly gives a radiant look, just as Huda claims it would! The longevity is pretty similar to Fenty Beauty and holds up really well throughout the day with minimal retouching.

The Verdict

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation

Overall, Fenty Beauty gave me a more natural matte finish to my skin. Probably due to it being medium-full coverage.

This foundation is suited more for everyday use than Huda Beauty. It also has the added advantage of having 10 extra shades than Huda Beauty. I also feel that the Pro Filt’r Foundation works better for normal to oily complexions as it has a true matte finish.

The foundation does tend to settle on fine lines, so I recommend using a good primer before to help get that barrier in between your foundation and your skin. Use it together with the Pro Filt’r Concelear for fabulous coverage.

Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation

Huda Beauty’s Faux Filter is a one-layer full-coverage foundation. The finish is definitely a real-life Instagram filter that is matte and radiant at the same time.

The Faux Filter is definitely best for special occasions and big events to really get that glam factor. If you prefer heavier coverage during the day and have more blemishes or pigmentation to cover then you’ll love this foundation! The Faux Foundation has you covered! (Pun Intended!)

One thing I did notice about the Faux Filter Foundation is that it has a scent. If you have sensitive skin I don’t recommend using a foundation with fragrance because it tends to aggravate the skin further. It’s unnecessary added chemicals that sensitive skin definitely does not need.

This foundation is excellent for dry skin since it does give you a little bit of a glow, unlike the Pro Filt’r one which is more suited to oilier skin.

Now, for the winner? Personally, I like the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation since it is a lot lighter and more natural-looking on the face. I do like the glow that the Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation gives but it is heavier on the skin, and that is just not my cup of tea for every day.

My Thoughts

As you can see both foundations are pretty awesome and there’s not much risk involved! Regardless of which one you choose, the most important thing you need to get right is the colour.

Many times one’s foundation looks off because of the colour and not the foundation itself. But that’s for a separate discussion!

I think it’s easy to understand why both these foundations are best-sellers! They are both of high quality, last well, easy to apply and have plenty of choice of colours! I honestly think if there were only these two foundations available in the world, everyone would find one from these to suit their needs and skin!

Huda Beauty and Fenty Beauty are both owned by inspiring and powerful women that aim to give us quality makeup products. They contribute to the better of the makeup world, making products that are inclusive and innovative.
