What are the benefits of the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick?

If I had to describe the Foundation Stick in 3 words I would choose, long-lasting, natural-looking and weightless.

The stick is an absolute dream to use! It is extremely creamy and very easy to blend. Applying it takes only a few minutes because of its lovely formula. It has moisturising ingredients like olive extract and shea butter for softer skin. These ingredients also help the foundation look more natural.

You can blend it out with your fingers, beauty blender or brush. All 3 methods will achieve the same skin-like appearance.

When I say skin-like appearance, I mean it. The foundation doesn’t settle into lines, nor does it accentuate pores! In fact, you legit cannot tell that you are wearing foundation. It blends into your skin perfectly and covers all the pores and lines flawlessly.

Oil Control: Yay or Nay?

Bobbi Brown also claims that the Skin Foundation Stick has oil-controlling minerals that reduce sweat and oil even in the hottest of temperatures.

So this claim I had a hard time with…

I have a combination skin that gets dehydrated. If I use a product that’s made for dry skin my face is a sheet of oil at the end of the day. So I was very excited to try this foundation because it claims to control oil.

The first time I used it, I didn’t put any setting powder on top because I wanted to see how good it was in its own right. Let’s just say I am not going to do that again! By the end of the day, my face was extremely shiny.

However, on the plus side, it was a very hot day and I was out in the sun for about an hour, and my makeup did not melt, nor run. It stayed in place perfectly. My pores stayed hidden and my lines did not crease.

So does the foundation control oil and shine or not? The foundation does stay in place really well and even in the heat, it will not budge. However, if you have oily or combination skin, use a setting powder and be open to top it up during the day.

The foundation has a sheer finish which gives it a natural glow.

Skin Foundation Stick Coverage

According to Bobbi Brown, the foundation stick is medium to full coverage. While the coverage is lovely, it is in no way full coverage. After applying 2 layers it was only a medium coverage, my spots and red areas were still visible through the foundation.

It is possible that by applying 3 or 4 layers it would have been full coverage, but if I had done that it would have taken away the skin-like appearance. It would have made the foundation look like a foundation which kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion.

So no, I don’t think the foundation is medium to full coverage, definitely more of a medium coverage.

The Colours

The Skin Foundation Stick comes in a whopping 43 shades. However, with a choice of 43 shades, most people will be able to find a shade that works well with their skin.

They have a big selection of shades for light skin, which naturally, I am very happy about. Yet, some of my friends with darker skin have complained that the choice of darker colours is not as great. Hopefully Bobbi Brown will keep adding more shades.

Who is the Skin Foundation Stick for?

Bobbi Brown says this foundation is for all skin types. However, I don’t agree with that. If you have acne or very oily skin I don’t recommend using the Foundation Stick as it won’t do anything for your skin.

It can work for combination skin but be aware that you may need a lot of setting powder. Ideally, it’s for dry skin.

The foundation stick has some lovely beneficial ingredients. It has shea butter and olive extracts which help moisturise the skin. Again, this is something that people with oily skin don’t need.

On the plus side, the foundation is fragrance-free and suitable for those with sensitive skin.

Final Thoughts

The Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick is one of the best foundation sticks on the market. It is super easy to use, blends seamlessly and lasts beautifully throughout the day.

My favourite part is that it doesn’t even look like you’re wearing foundation. That is the ultimate foundation goal!

Like all Bobbi Brown products, the Skin Foundation Stick is pricey, especially for the small amount that it comes with. If you are going to use only a small amount of it every day, like 1-2 layers then you will get your money’s worth.

However, if you’re attempting full coverage then your foundation will be finished in no time. And that’s not worth it, in my opinion.

It’s a great foundation that is very convenient. But like all products, it has to work for you and your skin. Will I buy the Foundation Stick again? Possibly, but it’s only for a good skin day when I don’t need full coverage.

  1. Thank you! This is just what I needed today! I have been looking for something that helps me cover just a bit or maybe up to medium and that is not to thick.

Love your picture because it helps me to actually see how it looks at the skin!

Do you think if I take just one layer that it will be more okay for me? Don´t like when it is to thick.. it just makes me look unnatural.

Love your site by the way!

    1. Aww thanks!

One layer could be enough but even with 2 layers, the foundation will still look natural and not at all thick.

  2. I love the fact that you try out and give an honest opinion on the products you promote on your site. You never fail to tell it like it is. I have semi-oily skin and I am often out in the heat in summer. Knowing ahead of time from your experiences that I will have to be sure to apply setting powder and possibly reapply it throughout the day is a huge plus.

Since you seemed to be happy with this foundation, I will give it a try. I will let you know how it works for me. Thanks for your honest opinions. I’ve been looking for a good foundation for a very long time!

    1. I believe honesty is the way to go!

It’s a lovely foundation and on a good skin day, it adds the perfect touch to the skin.

      Thanks for stopping by:)
