Trendy Haircuts and Hairstyles that will Transform Thin Hair

Everyone has their own unique hair struggles. Whether it’s frizzy hair, hair that’s too thick, lifeless hair or thin hair, to name a few! Thin hair that lacks volume is definitely a challenge in its own right and can affect one’s self-confidence. Understandably so.

But, before you give up, there are loads of flattering hairstyles and haircuts that will add oomph and thickness to your thin and fine hair.

Generally speaking, shorter hair is easier to get a thicker look with, however, if short hair isn’t your thing, there are some longer haircuts that work fabulously too!

I’ve put together some of the trendiest haircuts and hairstyles for thin hair. There are curly looks and straight looks, long and short looks! Having thin hair doesn’t mean you need to be limited!

1. Wavy bob for thin hair

Short hair isn’t limited and this wavy bob is proof of that! The waves add loads of depth and volume to the hair, which is especially necessary when it comes to fine and thin hair.

2. Blunt bob

Keeping in with the theme of bobs, we have this gorgeous blunt bob that is super flattering for thin hair. The blunt ends give an illusion of thicker hair. Style it straight with a touch of a wave to get this look!

3. Pixie cut

Pixie haircuts are not only great for those with thin hair, but they’re also a good option for those who want fuss-free hair.

If you don’t have time to style your hair, or you simply don’t like the feeling of hair touching your neck, you’ll love a pixie cut! Easy to take care of and it always gives a fuller look than what’s really there.

4. Long lob

Not everyone loves short hair, and that’s understandable. If you have thin hair there are longer hairstyles that will suit you too, like this long lob!

This bombshell hairstyle is gorgeous for thin hair! It’s got a blunt edge giving it a thicker appearance, and the balayage adds texture too!

5. Long fringe pixie cut

Long side bangs are amazing for adding volume to any hairstyle. Pair it with a cute pixie cut and no one will know that you have thin hair!

6. Inverted bob

An inverted bob, where the hair at the front is longer than at the back, gives the hair a fuller look and is a great trick for thin, fine hair.

Add some long layers at the back with a few shorter ones at the front. You’ll be surprised at how many hairstyles you’ll be able to create, be it straight or wavy, with a middle part or side!

7. Wispy bangs

A wispy fringe is ideal for thin hair because it’s not too heavy so it doesn’t affect the fullness of the rest of the hair.

Adding some dark roots also gives the hair a thicker appearance because of its contrast.

8. Long pixie cut

Do blondes really have more fun?! With this haircut, we think yes!

If you have wavy yet thin hair, this long bob will do wonders for you! It frames the face beautifully, but the most impressive part is that no one will realise that you have thin hair.

Keep your roots darker for a more textured, fuller look.

9. Pixie cut with a twist

Whoever thought short hair is boring is seriously mistaken! This pixie cut with its messy forward fringe is fun and creative!

The lowlights and highlights create more texture giving the hairstyle a thicker more volumized look.

Ideal for thin hair, it’s easy to style and hides any thin patches!

10. Long straight bob

This bold haircut is perfect for those with thin hair because of its edgy sharp finish.

Not too short, yet not too long, it frames the face and gives a more volumized appearance.

11. Shaggy bob

A shaggy bob is an excellent choice for those with thin hair. The shagginess adds instant volume and thickness giving thin hair more bounce.

The rich burgundy toned color of the hair definitely completes the look!

12. Long layered hair

Add long choppy layers to long fine hair for a fuller appearance. Long layers add the perfect amount of weight, without removing the density of the hair which allows it to look thicker.

For a more volumized look add highlight and lowlights which gives the hair more dimension.

How to care for thin hair?

There are loads of easy tips and tricks that you can implement in your day-to-day routine that don’t add too much time and energy.

Use shampoos that help thicken and strengthen hair

To start with, always use shampoo and conditioner that targets thin hair. Usually, they’ll have ingredients like keratin and biotin which help strengthen the hair.

Minimize harsh treatments

Chemicals in most dye and coloring products are often harsh and cause damage to the hair. Although this is annoying, try to limit the number of treatments. Your hair will thank you!

Don’t brush wet locks

Brushing wet hair is one of the most common causes of hair breaking. While that’s not good news for anyone, it’s even worse for those with thin hair.

Try to brush your hair when it’s no longer very wet. Alternatively, use a wide-toothed comb that is less likely to damage the hair.

Blow-dry carefully

Blowdrying often pulls out hair. When you have thin hair, the last thing you need is for more hair to fall out. Blow dry on a low setting, and keep a distance between your hair and the blowdryer.

My Thoughts

There’s no shortage of inspiration when it comes to haircuts and hairstyles for thin and fine hair.

Every hair type can look beautiful, with the right care and hairstyle. Whether you have curly, wavy or straight hair, there’s a haircut for you!

When choosing a haircut, bear in mind the shape of your face and make sure the haircut frames your face, but really that’s a blog post in itself!
