What Is Olaplex Hair Treatment And Does It Actually Work?

Looking after one’s hair is a lifelong task, that unfortunately seems to become more difficult as we age. Or at least it used to be that way!

Olaplex has taken the world by storm with its unique hair treatments, that have literally changed the way we look after our hair!

Founded in 2014, it’s a relatively new brand that quickly made its way to the top. And after trying out their products it’s easy to see why.

They have millions of fans around the world who can testify that if you want to fix your hair problem, Olaplex is the way to go.

All hair types can benefit from Olaplex thanks to its many different hair products for the many different needs that we all have. But, before we get into all of that, you are probably wondering what is so unique about Olaplex hair products.

What makes them stand out from the rest of the hair industry? Let’s find out in this review!

What Is Olaplex Hair Treatment

Olaplex No.0 Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment Review

Olaplex is different from all other hair brands because it fixes the hair from the inside out! Pretty unique, huh? They achieved this with their patented technology and formula.

It’s all due to their ‘invention’ of Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate ingredient. If you’re wondering what exactly that means, you’re not alone!

The way this ingredient repairs the hair is on a molecular level. With a single molecule, it repairs the hair from the outside in, from the very first time you use it.

Before Olaplex, there was no such thing as repairing broken hairs, it simply didn’t exist. Now with their patented ingredient, the impossible is possible.

Your hair may be broken from hair colouring or from heat products, no matter the cause, Olaplex is designed to fix it. And it does! Each individual hair gets treated with Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate which fixes the hair from the inside out!

So yep, whether you’ve damaged your hair from over-colouring it, or from using too much heat products on it, Olaplex knows how to fix it.

Not only does it repair hair, but also protects hair from further damage. Their products work on all hair types, from thick to thin as well as curly to straight.

Olaplex Bestselling Treatments

Choosing the correct Olaplex treatment for your hair can seem overwhelming at first. The treatments are named in numbers, ranging from 0 to 8 with some numbers having more than one treatment, and some numbers exclusive to hair salons.

Whilst we don’t really understand the science behind their product naming, we do understand the products!

Here we’ll go through the bestselling treatments of Olaplex and what each one does for your hair. We’re only reviewing the home treatments, not the professional ones (1 and 2).

For your own tailored hair routine, Olaplex has on their website a hair diagnostic quiz to give you the best personal hair routine specifically for your hair.

Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector

Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector

The bestselling treatment of Olaplex is their No.3 Hair Perfector! The Hair Perfector is a hair treatment, not a conditioner. Designed to help repair broken hair, and visibly strengthen it too.

Not only will your hair feel stronger, but it will also look healthier and more alive! Made for all hair types, from curly to straight and thick to thin.

How to use:

  • Apply to damp hair from roots to ends
  • Leave on for 10 minutes
  • Shampoo and condition as normal

It’s super easy to use, you don’t need to be a hairstylist to get it right. Olaplex recommends using the No.3 once a week for normal hair, and 2-3 times a week for damaged hair.

To impress you even further, the Hair Perfector is formulated without any bad stuff. Yup, it’s free from all harmful ingredients!

You can use it with the knowledge that not only is it going to miraculously improve your hair like no other hair product on the market, but it also won’t harm you or the environment.

Olaplex No.0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment

No.0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment

Combine No.3 with No.0 for even quicker and better results. No.0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment is the ideal treatment for damaged hair, it primes the hair and allows for deeper repair, thereby giving you 3x the results than using No.3 alone.

Of all of the Olaplex products, No.0 contains the highest concentration of the patented ingredient Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate. That’s why so many with broken and damaged hair swear by this treatment.

How to use:

  • Section your hair and apply slowly to dry hair
  • Really rub it in for the best results
  • Let it sit for 10 minutes
  • Apply No.3 without rinsing No.0
  • Continue No.3 proccess as normal

While there are many mixed reviews about No.0 being in a spray bottle, one thing most agree on is that if you’re having trouble with damaged hair, this is the treatment you need!

Many who had given up on their hair have had it brought back to life with this little bottle!

Olaplex No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo

No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo

Continue the course of the treatment with the Olaplex No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo. It repairs and strengthens the hair leaving it shinier, healthier and easier to manage.

Safe to use for all hair types, including coloured hair, oily hair and dry hair. Use it regularly on your hair for the best results.

How to use:

  • Apply and massage a small amount to your hair
  • Rinse from hair

Using the shampoo together with other Olaplex treatments will give you amazingly soft and healthy hair.

Using it alone doesn’t seem to give quite as impressive results for everyone so using it as a bundle is definitely recommended.

Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner

Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner

The perfect pair for the shampoo is the Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner, it completes it and gives far better results than using the shampoo alone. That is, especially if you have dry, coarse hair.

The conditioner moisturises the hair leaving you with healthier, shinier hair.

How to use:

  • Apply a generous amount to your hair following the Olaplex No.4
  • Leave on for 3 minutes and then rinse

The conditioner has quite a thick texture, so many have a love-hate relationship with it. We recommend using it if your hair is frizzy, dry or coarse for best results.

Eventhough the formula is thick, it doesn’t leave your hair weighed down, once it’s rinsed out, your hair will be bouncy and fresh!

My Thoughts

As you can probably tell, we love Olaplex hair treatments. They really are a cut above everything else on the market, and work like no other product.

We’ve only included a few of the bestsellers, but all of their products and treatments are impressive, we simply ran out of space and time!

The obvious downside is the prices of the treatments- they are also a cut above most hair products. However, if you take into consideration the number of salon trips you’ll be saving with the Olaplex products- really, you’re saving money!

From the fact that your hair won’t be so damaged to the fact that you are essentially doing professional hair treatments from the comfort of your home. Yep, you’re definitely saving!!

And the Olaplex hair treatments are the only hair treatments that actually fix damaged hair. From the outside, in!
