Top 5 Best Mascaras of my choice!

posted in: Makeup | 2

What I love the most about mascara is that it finishes your look. If you don’t have time to put on makeup in the morning a quick swipe of mascara makes you look great. But with such a big choice of mascaras its hard to find the right one. Here are my top 5 best mascaras, I’ve included both high end and budget mascaras to fit everyone’s budget.

All the mascaras that I’ve chosen I think are the top 5 best mascaras out there. However, mascara is a very personal thing. There’s no one mascara that will suit everyone and be the best for everyone. So it could be that a mascara will smudge on your friend, but it won’t smudge on you because your eyes and skin are different.

I’ve narrowed down the 5 mascaras that I believe are the best but I also believe each one works differently for each person- you have to figure out which one is the best for your skin and lifestyle!

1. Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

I honestly love this mascara, I have very short eyelashes and when I wear this mascara my eyelashes honestly look more layered, longer and thicker. It has a curved brush which they call the layer-reveal brush which makes your eyelashes appear to have more layers. It really does just that. I find a curved brush is also easier to apply mascara with. This mascara lasts really well without smudging, yet also comes off easily when you want to remove it. It comes in 2 colours, Black and Very Black.

Pros

Easy to apply

Lengths, thickens and layers lashes

Doesn’t smudge

Removes easily

Good value for money

Cons

Needs replacing often

Clumps a bit

The Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara can be bought here for £6.99 / $9

2. Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara

max factorThis is an amazing volumising mascara. It won the Instyle competition of Beauty Buys in 2014. This mascara has Max Factor’s biggest brush with double the amount of bristles. If you’re looking to add volume to your lashes this is a really good choice. It doesn’t take long to build your lashes with this thicker brush and in a couple of coats you get the fake eyelash look. It comes in 3 colours- black, black/brown and deep blue.

Pros

Easy to apply

Doesn’t smudge

Removes easily

False lash effect

Cons

Some clumping

The Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara can be bought here for £6.99

3. L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara x5

This mascara sells itself as a mascara that resists clumping and thickens your eyelashes x5 of your natural thickness. Having a mascara that thickens your lashes that much without clumping is a pretty good mascara and it really does just that! It also defines the lashes giving you that dramatic look. If you have sensitive eyes this mascara will be good for you. Its very easy to apply and lightweight when wearing it – it sort of feels like you’re not wearing anything. This is great for an everyday look when you just want to be comfortable.
It comes in 6 different colours. They are black, black brown, blackest black, carbon black, cobalt blue and soft black.

Cheap

Cons

Takes a little longer to remove the mascara at the end of the day

Some smudging

L’oreal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara can be bought here for £8.49

4. Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

This mascara by Too Faced is all the rage at the moment and not without reason. It really is one of the best mascaras I’ve used. It has a special shaped brush that coats the lashes perfectly and curls them at the same time. After one coat of this mascara your eyelashes look full, the equivalent of using 3 coats of another mascara.  After you’ve used 3 coats of this mascara you look like you’ve got false lashes. Not that it adds to the quality of the actual mascara but the packaging is really pretty!

Cons

Some complain of clumping

 5. Estée Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara

Estee Lauder MascaraI’m always wary of products that have too many selling points like this mascara which claims to last for 15 hours, not smudge at all and add a lot
of length. However, when I tried it out I was pleasantly surprised. It lasted beautifully the whole day which was from 8am until 11pm and there was seriously no smudging. It also lengthened my eyelashes beautifully. Also if you have sensitive eyes this is a really good mascara for you because it’s so soft and it doesn’t irritate the eyes at all.

Pros

Long wearing

No smudging

Lengthens lashes

Cons

Slightly pricy

The Estée Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara can be bought here for $29 or here for £21

    Hey

It is not easy for me to admit but I have never used mascara and I am close to my 40ies 🙂 So I think it is about time to start using it but all of this seems too overwhelming to me. So many brands and so many mascaras. As I haven’t spent any cent for a mascara up to now I think I can afford not to pay attention to the price. But which mascara is the best? Is the most expensive one the best? I know that we usually pay for brand names and the highest price doesn’t necessarily mean the highest quality so wanted to have a professional opinion.

      Hi there,

Don’t worry, you’re not alone in that- I know lots of people who don’t wear mascara!

As I wrote in the article all the mascaras I mentioned are great choices. They each have different pros and cons. What I do think is that a good expensive mascara tend to last that bit longer that the cheap ones. Although you can’t just rely on the brand because as you say you buy the brand name. There are plenty of expensive mascaras that are really not so good at all.

I guess you want a mascara thats easy to apply. However, its hard to recommend without knowing your lashes or what type of mascara you want- lengthening, thicken, false lash effect.

Since you’re a newbie I would recommend a lightweight mascara so that it doesn’t bother you. The Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara is a great choice, or if you want a cheaper alternative the Loreal Paris Voluminous Mascara is also lightweight.

Good luck and have a good day,

      Hollie x
