NARS have been ahead of the game with their releases, by December they had already launched their Spring 2020 collection, the NARS Afterglow Collection. This consists of the Afterglow Eyeshadow Palette, the Overlust Cheek Palette and 6 beautiful shades of the Afterglow Lip Balm!
With beautiful marbelised metallics, this collection is as glorious as it can be! First previewed on NARS’ Instagram with the caption “It’s about to glow up”, featuring their glowy new collection!
This collection features brand new eyeshadow shades, new cheek colours, as well as hot new lip balm colours. This is unlike anything that NARS has done before. In addition to all that, they have a new formula for their highlighters! They must have listened to their loyal fans for the plea of a newer variety of shades!
I know you are excited as I am for this collection without further ado, let’s check out the NARS Afterglow Collection!
First things first, the packaging is just exquisite! It has a rippling effect that creates texture over the copper marbelised packaging. You can tell how much thought and effort has been put into the design of the palette.
The Afterglow Eyeshadow Palette has a total of 12 shades a combination of 4 mattes, 4 satins and 4 metallics, a great balance in the textures. The colours will make you think of an orangey-pink sunset on a beautiful spring evening.
At first glance, you may think that this is your ordinary everyday neutral palette with some pop of colour. If you are thinking of passing with this one because it’s your regular browns and neutrals. Give it a little chance.
This palette certainly surprised me with how versatile it is. The more that I played with the shades, the more combinations I created. I can create looks from pastels to pinks to bright magenta to smoky and of course, an everyday friendly look.
The colours are well-pigmented and blend beautifully and seamlessly on the eyes. Expecting nothing less from NARS, the formula and quality of the eyeshadows are definitely up there. The shadows layer perfectly and it’s easy to switch from a daytime look to a nighttime look in no time!
Just like the Afterglow Eyeshadow palette, the Overlust Cheek Palette is truly something! The cheek palette features a new NARS formula of gel-to-powder shimmer highlighters and three matte blushes. Overall, these are beautiful toned down colours that you can wear every day and for parties and occasion wear.
The new formula of highlighters feels so creamy to the touch but once applied on the cheeks, it leaves the most beautiful glow that looks like it’s coming from within, I kid you not! We all know that NARS blushes are top-notch, and the blushes on this palette don’t disappoint.
So far, this cheek palette is definitely different from the previous cheek palettes that they released. And ut’s a refreshing change! (no Laguna or Orgasm!) The colours are a lot lighter and more muted in colour.
I like how it starts light on the initial application, yet it’s still very buildable. Wearing these colours will give your cheeks a gorgeous natural flush!
There is one thing I did notice with this cheek palette is that there is no cover or separator for the powder and cream. This makes it very easy for any powder residue from the blushes to fall on the gel-to-powder highlighters and this can be troublesome and annoying. Another thing you should be aware of is that the gel-to-powders tends to dry quickly, not a bad thing but just something you should know when applying them.
Since the colours are pretty muted and light, these may not be pigmented enough for darker skin tones. I hope that NARS make another cheek palette that will suit our medium to darker skin tones out there.
The Afterglow Lip Balms made its debut back in 2018 with the all-time favourite shade of Orgasm. It was only time for NARS to add in 6 more shades to their lip balm this spring. And it’s the perfect time of year for that as the days warm up to apply some pretty spring colours!
The Afterglow Lip Balms come in this beautiful metallic packaging, and the colours coincide with the shade of the lip balm as well!
The shades are:
Deep Throat – peachy pink with a slight shimmer
Torrid – orangey coral
Dolce Vita – rosy pink
Fast Lane – soft mauve pink
Wicked Ways – deep plum
Turbo – soft red
Obviously, these are only tinted lip balms and do not have any high impact colours. I think this will be great for anyone who needs a little pick-me-up for a quick day. They are very hydrating and do their job as lip balm really well.
They are more expensive than a regular lip balm, but honestly, they are worth the value if you use lip balms religiously. Keeping one of these in your purse is something to show off! The packaging is beautiful!
NARS Cosmetics, over the last couple of years, have really stepped up with their cheek and eyeshadows palettes! Their formulas and quality have come a long way.
The Afterglow Collection has surprised me in a lot of ways, most notably with the Eyeshadow Palette. It is more versatile than a neutral-brown heavy kind of eyeshadow palette, there are so many looks that you can create with it!
Overall, I think the Afterglow Collection is an excellent transition from the winter to springtime. Not only that, but you will also be able to incorporate it in other seasons. I generally love NARS products and once again, they haven’t disappointed!
