Get LIT makeup with the Maybelline Cheek Gel-Cream Heat Blush

I’m quite into blushes lately, they are an easy trick in making your face look alive and made up without a complete full-face makeup situation. And honestly, I’ve been eyeing the affordable Maybelline Cheek Heat Blush for a while now!

I use quite a few other Maybelline products and on the whole, I’ve been pretty impressed!

I’m generally fine with any type of blush, whether it be a tint, powder, cream, or liquid because I can work around whatever drawbacks there are. (But that doesn’t mean I’m not guilty of playing favouritism either).

I developed a liking for liquid blushes after my trying out the NARS Liquid Blush and have been trying out some other ones too since then. My problem with liquid blushes has always been finding similar (and cheaper) formulas that didn’t smear or get splotched when layering them.

Maybelline Cheek Gel-Cream Heat Blush?

Maybelline Cheek Gel-Cream Heat Blush is formulated as an “oil-free, water-based liquid blush”. It’s buildable with a pretty dewy finish perfect for those with drier and more mature skin.

The packaging is a cute opaque plastic tube with a black plastic screw cap. The colour of the packaging is the colour of the blush. Although it may not be as classy as Glossier’s tubes, it’s still pretty and functional! It’s great for on-the-go and the screw lid is a nice security feature.

The Shades

The blush comes in 6 shades:

  • 10 Pink Scorch
  • 15 Nude Burn
  • 20 Rose Flush
  • 25 Fuchsia Spark
  • 30 Coral Ember
  • 35 Berry Flame

10 Pink Scorch

Pink Scorch

This is a nice youthful shade. It’s a bright bubblegum pink colour that I think would look great for a nude “no makeup” look. This one suits my pale skin tone too so it’s a fave!

15 Nude Burn

This one’s a deep rosy mauve that complements light smokey eye makeup beautifully. I also think it’s one of those shades that perfectly flatter mature skin, as well as a shade that suits light, medium, and dark skin tones.

20 Rose Flush

Rose flush sounds and looks like a peachy-charactered girl. It’s a bubbly shade that goes well with shimmery, dewy makeup. I think it’s a great summer shade, perfect for a natural sun-kissed face!

25 Fuchsia Spark

Fuchsia Spark

This one’s a deeper tone of Rose Flush. And although it looks nice on me, I think it better complements medium to dark skin toned women.

It is a lovely shade that goes with a lot of eye and lip colour combinations. This is your go-to shade for when you’re not sure what shade of blush to go for!

30 Coral Ember

Coral Ember is a more orangey peach shade. It’s a shade more commonly paired with orange and nude-toned lipsticks. I personally find shades like this one give the wearer a more mature aura.

35 Berry Flame

This is a muted berry pink colour which is a shade usually chosen for sexier, darker smokey eye looks. And works well with all warm, cool and neutral skin undertones.

Formula and Application On The Cheeks

The pigment and colour payoff are absolutely wonderful. Even after applying one layer, the tint is there and visible. It’s got just the right amount of sheer to give your cheekbones some colour.

It’s definitely buildable as well and the layers hold up pretty nicely. The blush is very easy to control by either using your fingers, your brush or a makeup sponge.

When it came to layering, I did notice the blush getting a bit patchy, especially with the shades Coral Ember and Nude Burn on the second and third applications. But it was an easy fix.

First, you can wait out a few minutes until the first layer has settled and dried enough. That way, the second layer doesn’t mess up the original one.

Second, you can mix a couple of dabs of the blush on the back of your hand with a bit of the foundation or BB cream that you’re using.

It’s a personal trick I’ve picked up from all the other patchy cream blushes I’ve used and I have found it does a great job at preventing mottled layers. The blushes don’t have any fragrance or any disturbing smells at all.

On The Lips

With this kind of formula, they’re typically okay to use as lip tints too. So I tried them on my lips and the colours looked fab, actually, they looked even more opaque when worn on the lips than on the cheeks! The blushes glide on seamlessly and apply remarkably evenly.

The gel-liquid formula isn’t sticky, in fact, it even feels moisturising on the lips. A lovely added bonus!

Final Thoughts

I think the Maybelline Cheek Heat Blush is a good product overall in terms of what it does and the cost. It’s not disappointing at all given how affordable it is.

But I do think the formula can be improved a little so that we won’t need to apply solutions to areas that it lacks, specifically when it comes to layering the blushes.

The shades are great considering they are typical colours that can be used for a wide range of makeup looks, skin colour, and undertones.

Despite the few negatives, the blush finish is nicely illuminating. It has a beautiful shimmer and really does give off a radiant dewy effect. You won’t need to put on a highly pigmented highlighter afterwards because of the blush’s dewy finish.

It lasts like any other liquid blush and more importantly, doesn’t irritate the skin at all.

I also like that it has more than one use. I love a good product that multi-tasks! It works great as a blush, and also as a lip tint. At least, if it really doesn’t work as a blush for you, you can always use it for your lips!

Such a nice article you have here!

I like the “Maybelline Cheek Gel-cream Heat Blush” because it’s formulated as an oil free and also a water based liquid which is really good.

The shades you have here are extremely wonderful and difficult to choose from! But I will go for the nude burn and the berry flame.

Am a make up artist , I’ll probably try it for my client. Thanks for sharing.
