With my 4-year-old daughter completely obsessed with princesses at the moment, the effect has rubbed off on me. When I saw the MAC Cosmetics Prissy Princess eyeshadow palette, I knew I had to have it.
The palette definitely lives up to its name, it will make anyone feel like a princess. The packaging is elegant, yet at the same time it’s fun, the spots give it that added element. I love how the font is so fitting for royalty and, of course, the light pink packaging is a must!
Like all MAC Cosmetics products, this eyeshadow palette will not let you down. The palette feels expensive and the packaging is not made of thin cardboard, like some of the cheaper palettes. It’s durable and it will last for a long time. It opens and closes with a strong magnet which I like, I hate it when my eyeshadow palettes open too easily because then they always open at the wrong times! Oh and the mess…
The palette has a nice sized mirror inside enabling you to use it to apply the shadows. This is always an important factor, this way you can apply your makeup anywhere without needing to carry an extra mirror.
On to the colours! The Prissy Princess palette comes with 9 dazzling shades. The choice of colours is perfect, they couldn’t feel more princess-like if you tried. It is a cool-toned palette with some neutrals and pinks. The palette has a combination of mattes and shimmers so that you can wear it for any occasion, be in work or parties.
Looking at the palette you will notice how some of the shades are larger than the others. I think MAC did this with the intention that the colours that will be most used there will be more of so that they last longer. I like a brand that thinks of these factors. How many times do you have your least favourite colours left in your eyeshadow palette, which you know you’re not going to use, yet you feel bad to throw the palette away?! I know the feeling all too well!
The biggest shade is the highlighter which is called She’s a Rainbow. It is a most beautiful shade of pink with a shimmer of silver. I can definitely see why this is the biggest shade. I already tried it out and it’s more beautiful in real. It’s highly pigmented and it can be applied in so many different ways. It can be used as a regular highlighter or it can be used as an eyeshadow. I tried dabbing a bit of it on top of my lipstick to give it an extra pop, it looked fab! Really, the choices are endless!
There are another 3 shades that are slightly larger than some of the others. The first one is a light pink creamy matte colour called Colour Me Spoiled. This is good for a base colour and because of that, it will be used frequently. The second one is a cool brown shimmer which has a foil finish, this is good for a darker look that you want to add some sparkle to. The third larger colour is a dark brown matte colour which is perfect for a smokey eye look.
The other 4 shades in the palette which are all slightly smaller are all more in between colours. You won’t use them all at the same time, you will use maximum 2 at the same time. Because you will use them less frequent, it makes sense that they are smaller in size.
Pro Tip: Before applying eyeshadow always apply an eyeshadow primer first. This will help your eyeshadow to stay on for longer and better without smudging or creasing. My favourite eye primer is the MAC Prep + Prime. Read my review here!
I love the Prissy Princess eyeshadow palette and I think MAC did a great job with it. It will make anyone feel like a princess!
Like all products, there are always a couple of negatives. With the Prissy Princess palette, the main negative is naturally the price. No MAC products are cheap, including this one. That’s the cost of designer makeup!
Another comment I heard from a few people is that the colours aren’t pigmented enough. So whilst I wouldn’t say that the Prissy Princess palette is the most pigmented palette I’ve seen, I didn’t have any problem with the pigmentation. Some of the colours may have needed an extra swipe for the swatches but that didn’t bother me. On the whole, the colours are very easy to use and I found them all to be very creamy and soft in texture. They feel luxury and look it too!
I found the palette easy to use and to apply to my skin. It applied evenly with little fallout. I am genuinely very impressed and excited to see how many different looks I can create with the Prissy Princess palette.
